Spirituality Commission

Trinity’s Spirituality Commission strives to nurture parishioners’ spirits by providing programs and supporting groups that emphasize parish values and awaken the senses and spirits of our Trinity community.

Successful programs often become recurring ones, and this is the case with the Lenten Series, which has become an annual program that many look to for deepening their observance of Lent. Held on the Wednesdays in Lent (those following Ash Wednesday and preceding Holy Week), Trinity’s Lenten Series features a simple meal, followed by multiple break-out groups, each with a particular focus and usually tied to a common theme. Break-outs are also offered for young people and older children, and child care is available for small children.

For the past several years, the Commission has coordinated a prayer vigil on Maundy Thursday, beginning after the worship service and stripping of the altar through to services on Good Friday. Parishioners are encouraged to help create a Garden of Gethsemane effect by lending plants and greenery to the setting at the front of the nave. For the vigil, parishioners sign up for time slots throughout the night. At each person’s discretion, vigil participants engage in prayer, quiet reflection, reading scripture, observing the Stations of the Cross, et cetera.

Another regular offering sponsored by the Commission is the annual parish retreat, typically held at Shrine Mont during a summer weekend. The retreat is intended to give parish members the opportunity to celebrate, learn, play, and worship together in a relaxed atmosphere.  The weekend provides opportunities for structured and unstructured fellowship, personal reflection, and daily worship.  All ages are welcome at the retreat.

In September 2008, the Commission sponsored a bus trip to both the National Cathedral and the National Zoo in Washington, DC—a wonderful opportunity for the participants to appreciate a tour of this very special house of prayer for all peoples, and to enjoy the marvels of God’s creatures.

In addition to these sorts of programs and events, the Commission is pleased to support several parish groups that have formed because of their specialized interests in spirituality, such as the Women’s Spirituality Group, Canterbury Club, the Knit/Crochet Group, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, etc. Please visit (click) the related links on this page to learn more about the respective focus and activities of these groups.

The Spirituality Commission continually looks for new activities and programs that will help to nurture the spirit of the parish. If you have an idea that you’d like for the Commission to consider or if you would like to participate on the Commission, please contact the Rev. Kent Rahm.
