Baptisms and Confirmations
Baptism

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is central to the life of the church.  It is our intention to take preparation for baptism very seriously.  Baptism preparation at Trinity Church involves four classes led by people called catechists.  These are members of Trinity who have been trained to assist individuals and families in their preparation for baptism.  Please note the scheduled dates for baptism and for the classes below.  The first and last class are fixed but the two middle classes may be scheduled at the convenience of the catechist and the participants.  You may have a number of questions about baptism, its meaning and theology.  Most of those question can be addressed during the Baptism Classes.  If you are interested in Holy Baptism for yourself or a family member call the church office at (540) 373-2996 or speak to a member of the clergy.  You will be sent some information and a form to complete.  A catechist will contact you about the first class.

Confirmation

“Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 860)

Confirmation classes at Trinity Church seek to help folks experience God and their faith in a deeper way through experiences such as worship (living through the church calendar to experience Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Pentecost.), service to others, prayer, and a retreat.  The goals of our curriculum are to take people who are familiar with their faith deeper into their faith and spirituality; to help them have a deeper experience of their faith; and to combine learning about one’s faith with doing/experiencing/practicing one’s faith.

Our program may lead to confirmation, but it doesn’t have to do so.  Some participants may already be confirmed.  The next class starts in Trinity’s Confirmation Class will begin on Tuesday, November 27 at 7 p.m. in the Lounge.  The class will meet roughly twice a month until April.  Included in the class will be: learning about the Bible, discovering the history of the Episcopal Church, who is Jesus, a retreat, a mission project, experiencing new ways to pray and more!  Confirmation is usually for adults 16 and up in the Episcopal Church.  The class is also appropriate for people who would like to renew their Confirmation vows and for people who just want to learn more about their faith.  This class, which was designed by Trinitarians with experience in education, will help participants to claim their faith, to see their faith in a new light, and to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ.  Click here to see the full schedule for the class.  Please contact a member of the clergy or call the church office at (540) 373-2996 if you are interested in confirmation.
