Overview of our Programs

Worship is the center of our parish life. There are many opportunities to participate in our worship services: Choir, Acolytes, Altar Guild, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, and Prayers of the People.

Programs for Children include Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Holy Communion instruction.

The Youth Groups are comprised of Junior and Senior High School age students and their friends. They meet on Sunday evenings to share fun and fellowship, and special events and activities are scheduled throughout the year.

The Canterbury Club is a ministry to the students of the University of Mary Washington . They meet on Sunday evenings for a meal and worship. Other activities include speakers, trips, and retreats.

We offer many opportunities for Adult Christian Education and spiritual growth . In addition to adult Sunday School classes, other activities during the week include Book Study Group, Lenten Study Groups, retreats, and other specially scheduled educational opportunities.

We are committed to Outreach in both the Fredericksburg community and beyond. We provide those in need food and a place to shower on a daily basis, and Tuesday Night Assistance provides food and emergency funds twice a month. We sponsor a yearly mission trip and collect funds for special needs. The ECW sponsors semi-annual Yard and Bake Sales and donates half of the proceeds to the Outreach Program. Trinity is part of the MICAH Ecumenical Ministry, comprised of seven downtown churches whose mission is to “advocate for the spiritual health of our community and for the economic and social justice for its people.”

Varied opportunities for Fellowship include The Brotherhood of St. Andrew, The Episcopal Church Women, Dinners for Eight, the Breakfast Group, and the Woodworker’s Guild.

Programs involved in Pastoral Care include the Health Ministry, Parish Shepherds, and Angels Unaware.

You can sign up to receive Trinity’s newsletter, the One-In-Three, by calling the church office.

Our History

The original congregation of Trinity Episcopal Church began in 1877 with thirty-six communicants. The Reverend Edmund C Murdaugh was the first Rector. This congregation built “old” Trinity located at the corner of Hanover and Prince Edward Streets and had its first service on Christmas Day 1881. The doors of “new” Trinity, at its present location of William Street and College Avenue, were opened for services in September 1959. The altar and many of the furnishings were incorporated into the new building. The Jamison Hall addition was completed in 1982 to provide additional classroom space.
